**Please note that WCHS does NOT ship or fly their animals to adopters** The Whitman County Humane Society has a Bearded Dragon looking for a good forever home. WCHS took in 12 Bearded Dragons last July in order to help a citizen who simply had too many pets. Since getting them last July, WCHS staff have been working hard to get them healthy and find them homes. These goals have been met with quite a bit of success and the shelter now only has one Bearded Dragon left: Squirt. Squirt has seen an exotics vet multiple times and has been deemed healthy and ready to go. Squirt is a handsome, male Bearded Dragon who believes that he is a fire-breathing dragon overseeing his domain. He is spunky little fellow who is a voracious eater and an avid cricket and roach hunter. He loves to race down to his food bowl and steal the lettuce out of your hand as you are filling it. He is vigilant at guarding his turf, sometimes waking up from a dead sleep to run to each corner of his enclosure to head bob so hard his front legs lift off the ground before returning to his high perch to rest. He is can be held just fine however, though he may protest with an angry black beard and an open mouth. Once he is out he is usually tolerant though he believes he deserves a lot more respect than most Bearded Dragons. He will let you know you have crossed a line by puffing himself up, open mouth hissing, and his very dark beard. He appears to be quite proud of what seems to be the blackest Bearded Dragon beard in all of Whitman County. Squirt loves his crickets! He will usually wolf down 20-30 crickets in one sitting. Recently he has been getting Dubia Roaches instead of crickets as they are more nutritious and easier to maintain. He LOVES them! Squirt CANNOT be housed with other Bearded Dragons. He is very territorial and will even head bob at people walking past his enclosure or cats that peer at him through his tank. He is full of personality and consequently he is very funny to watch. Squirt would not be a good pet for small children who do not understand how to handle a Bearded Dragon. While Squirt has never bitten anyone, he deserves a higher level of respect when it comes to handling him. **An important note when thinking about housing Beardies together: while they may have lived together they may eventually need to be separated. Some Bearded Dragons may become territorial over time. If you see any of the Beardies begin nodding /bobbing their head consistently at the other Beardies you will need to purchase a separate tank. Displays like this are aggressive and mean that the Beardie is warning the other Beardies that it does not like them in its turf** Due to limited reptile supplies, Squirt does not come with a tank or supplies with his adoption.
